Testing for asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification subjects stuffed toys to both physical and chemical testing to ensure that they do not have properties that are likely to trigger asthma and allergy symptoms in susceptible people. Allergen accumulating within a toy must be removable by an initial freezing process followed by laundering in a washing machine. The rate of house-dust mite allergen accumulation in a toy item under defined conditions must be determined.
Before and after the recommended repeated laundering procedures, toys must meet or exceed the most stringent applicable international legal restrictions/directive standards for quality and safety. Toys are also tested for chemical content and emissions using chamber testing.
